چکیده

In this work the dynamics of liquid crystal ordering in a cylindrical geometry are considered. We study a system with liquid crystalline properties that exhibits translational symmetry along the cylinder axis and, therefore, the problem is effectively two-dimensional. The orientation of liquid crystals is described by a tensorial order parameter and the dynamics are governed by a balance between the dissipation and the rate of change of free energy, which includes the elastic, thermotropic and surface energy terms. The evolution of the þ2 defect differentiating first into two þ1 disclinations and subsequently into four þ1=2 defects is analysed. Different boundary conditions, namely strong and weak or no anchoring, have been considered and the critical value for the anchoring strength, at which þ1=2 defects are very close to escaping through the boundary but still remain there at equilibrium, has been identified.

Experimental and FEM Analysis of Ribs Defects on Composite Lattice Cylindrical Shells

In this study, the behavior of a composite lattice cylindrical shell is investigated in the buckling deforming. Also, the distribution of shell buckling response and the stress field is studied after making some defects on the ribs. Therefore using ANSYS software, a 3D finite element model of the shell has been created for the analysis. Material properties and geometrical data of the shell are o...

Buckling Analysis of Composite Lattice Cylindrical Shells with Ribs Defects

In this paper, the buckling behavior of a composite lattice cylindrical shell is studied and effects of rib defects on the distribution of stress field and buckling response of the shell is investigated. A three dimensional finite element buckling analysis of the lattice shell is carried out using ANSYS suit of program. Geometrical data and material properties of the shell are obtained from the...
